What is Thrive Coaching of Asheville All About?

Thrive Coaching of Asheville (Thrive) offers a self-actualization process specifically designed for individuals who experienced childhood traumas, have worked hard in psychotherapy and/or addiction recovery programs, have healed significantly, but still are not happy.

Step by step, Thrive helps clients to:

  • clarify the talents, values, and aspirations that resonate deep within.

  • make fulfilling new choices.

  • successfully contend with inner and outer obstacles.

  • identify and expand their strengths and skills.

  • achieve their heartfelt goals.

What are the guiding principles behind Thrive?

The dynamic process I offer my clients  --  Thrive Coaching -- is based on a powerful synthesis of  the most valuable principles I have come across for helping my clients to transform their lives. These principles derive from Co-Active Coaching,  Positive Psychology,  the Diamond Approach, and Internal Family Systems. Key components include:

  • conviction that our lives feel most meaningful and fulfilling when we align them with our talents, values, and aspirations;

  • trust that whatever is coming up in the moment is a key to what next needs to be addressed;

  • acceptance that re-shaping one's life, particularly if one has had serious adverse experiences, is an intricate process;

  • clarity that within each of us are numerous needs and perspectives, all of which require respectful inclusion, in order to arrive at a fully informed and successful path forward;

  • commitment to who we are at our most inspired.

  • knowledge that it is never too late to make changes and that when we do what we are meant to do, the regrets of the past simply drop away and we live far more fully in the present.

Is Thrive right for me?

Thrive is a great choice when you:

  • are in touch with your dreams or sincerely want to be;

  • recognize that you would deeply benefit from skilled, caring support to facilitate your growth process.

  • have resolved significantly any emotional traumas or addictions that have previously kept you from constructively addressing your future.

When and where can I do Thrive

You can do Thrive by phone from anywhere in the world or you can make an appointment to meet in person in Asheville.  If working together by phone, we simply work out appointments that take into account time-zone differences.  (My schedule is based on Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the United States.)

How does Thrive differ from psychotherapy?

One major distinction between psychotherapy and Thrive is that  psychotherapy focuses primarily on understanding and resolving past hurts, whereas Thrive focuses more on what you want to create in your life  going forward.    So if you are still consumed by past hurts, you are not yet at a stage where Thrive can help you.  On the other hand, if you feel like you understand and have more or less worked through many issues from the past, but you're still not feeling able to achieve your dreams, Thrive may be precisely what you need.

The reason that Thrive can be so beneficial at that juncture is that it not only helps you articulate what life choices most delight you; it also helps you to build the strengths and skills to live a life based on those choices.   As someone who experienced adverse childhood experiences, you also experienced derailment of normal developmental processes that would have helped you make relatively easy, positive choices regarding your work, your love life, and your lifestyle. So as you step out of your comfort zone to reach for increased fulfillment, long-powerful inner obstacles often arise, and that is where Thrive is most beneficial. While keeping you in touch with your sources of inspiration, Thrive also helps you to deal with your inner challenges; constantly acknowledges the strengths and talents you already bring to your journey;  helps you to develop whatever new strengths and skills you need in order to succeed; and consistently supports your intention to achieve your full potential.
